Dulce
Big Momma Dulce—a name reflective of her size (and the false assumption that she'd be pregnant when rescued)- is a snuggle bug with a heart full of resilience. When she first arrived in hospice care, she was scraggly, with patchy fur, a head tilt, and no interest in veggies. While at first she appeared light and delicate, over the next 8 month, her beautiful hair grew longer, she started enjoying veggies, her weight climbed, and she became more chatty. She was anything but fragile! She had already survived so much: a life of neglect, hips permanently spread from excessive breeding, and multiple infections. Each time, she defied the odds, even when euthanasia was recommended.
However, her story wasn't over then. She later developed necrosis in her right foot, requiring a surgery. Luckily, through her resilience and strength, she pulled through it and recovered perfectly. She began to groom herself and hop around her cage more often, still enjoying a nice head scratch.
Unfortunately, she began to develop an infection near her surgery site, which continued to grow worse. Despite efforts to reduce this infection, it continued to spread to other parts of her leg including the bone. After a culture and 3 rounds of various antibiotics, it was determined that she needed to undergo another surgery to remove the remaining bone. This surgery would eliminate this spot where a buildup of poop and hay was causing the infection.
Following a successful second surgery, Big Momma Dulce was feeling great! She had recovered perfectly, and after a few final procedures and vet checks, she was back to being healthy again!
Dulce now lives in a loving forever home.
