Our Adoption Policies

  • Before adopting, we perform an inspection to ensure guinea pigs end up in a home that is ready to care for them. If you’d like to learn more about guinea pig care and our requirements for adopters, please read the Care Guide

  • Adoption fees are due prior to pickup and refundable for 14 days.

  • Approved adopters may request a hold on specific guinea pig(s) for up to two weeks with a deposit.

  • All animals adopted from our group receive a final health exam prior to adoption. With advance notice, we will reimburse any vet bills with a diagnosis for 30 days after adoption if there are any health concerns. Guinea pigs can also be examined by our veterinarian for the first month after adoption at no charge, by appointment.

  • We don’t adopt to anyone looking to have a guinea pig as a “classroom pet”

  • We don’t adopt to anyone looking to give a guinea pig as a gift. The adopter must be the new home of the adopted guinea pig.

  • We don’t adopt out during the month of December. This is to enforce our gift policy and make sure guinea pigs end up in a home that is ready to love and care for them.

  • If in the future, an adopter has a situation where they need to surrender piggies previously adopted from Cavies and Canines, they must return them to our rescue.
